Get Involved And Make A Difference!

Volunteers are key to the success of our Club. Each season we rely on the support and enthusiasm of our volunteers for the successful organisation and accomplishment of club events, games and practices. We are strictly a non-profit community group and without our volunteers we would never have come this far. Sign up for a volunteer task and work with a fantastic group of volunteers to take our club to even greater heights. If you have an idea for a Comets event you would like to organize or how to make the Comets even better let us know!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Webmaster

We are looking for somebody who can maintain our website. You don't need any webdesign experience, because the program is template-based and very easy to use. All you need is internet and enthusiasm. Let us know if you want to give it a try?

Coaches and assitant coaches

There are a few netball coaching opportunities in high schools and recreational facilities in North and West Vancouver. Coaches are needed for beginner girls teams (age 13 - 18) and adult beginner netball programs in the North and West Vancouver Rec centres. Comets would also like to start our own Comets Youth team (age 13 - 18) and aspiring Comets coaches are welcome to sign up. Previous netball coaching experience is an asset, but not required. Netball coaching clinics are available.

Fundraising help needed

Our club is bursting at the seams and fundraising helps to keep our costs as low as we can. Our committee has many ideas, but need volunteers to help plan, coordinate and put our ideas into action.

Flyer distribution

We have flyers and posters to display on notice boards and display tables at community centres, translink exchange points, schools, gyms, shopping centers, coffee shops and other sport groups such as rugby and cricket clubs.  Help us spread the word.

School Netball Development

Volunteers are needed to coordinate short netball introductions with schools that showed interest to introduce netball to the girls in North and West Vancouver schools. There are many options; use your own initiative and coordinate with the teacher as to what you will do. You could promote netball by explaining the game in short, maybe sharing your netball story with the girls, and handing out a few flyers. You could explain the game briefly in a physical education class and then teach the kids a few skills. You could coordinate an "exhibition" game played by Comets players to let the teachers and girls see what netball is.  The are many opportunities. Let us know if you are interested?

League scores

CTV is in the process of providing viewers extensive coverage of all amateur sports in the province. They are currently creating a website to post weekend scores of league results and are calling on all sport clubs and groups to sign up for this. We are looking for a volunteer that can sign us up, gather the scores from all VANA league games and forward this to CTV on Saturday afternoons. Interested? Email us now at nsnetball@hotmail.com.

Sponsorship and Funding

There are many opportunities on the web for non-profit ladies sports to apply for sponsorship or funding from the government or companies that want to support athletes and sport development and promote healthy and active living. We are looking for a Comet who can look into these opportunites and apply for sponsorship or funding for our ever-growing club.

Media correspondance

There are a few local papers, magazines and websites that are always happy to announce upcoming events and receive up-to-date news. Some of them are the BritishColumbian, 24hours, Georgia Straight, The Vancouver Courier, The WestEnder, Outlook, Craigslist, etc. We are looking for somebody who can liaise with these sources to announce upcoming events, look for free advertising and recruiting opportunities and possibly get media coverage for netball news and results.
